Customer Centric Design

As one passes through the catacombs of the internet, one realizes pretty soon that the path to internet nirvana, cyber fame and fake internet points (karma) is often laid through the ability to make gifs - however one may pronounce them. So I took the first step and found a gif about making gifs from imgur.com and as instructed dowloaded gimp and gifcam.

The gifcam page is from an blog about apps and extols the many values of gifcam - it's easy fun, allows you to do something creative and practical.

The Page is a disaster.

The simple reason being that when you say something is practical in an impractical way, it kind of defeats the purpose.

The reason anyone comes to that page is to download gifcam. But the page maker in all his/her wisdom seems to have forgotten this simple fact.

1) The the page is infinitely long. And all the useless stuff is up front

no sign of a download link hmm....But this stuff is interesting to read I guess

maybe the next scroll will have it...

i'm getting bored of this. Give me the link already!

Nope! Still nothing

Please just give me a link! I will do anything for the download link! Please! Please I Implore you just give me the Link!

Holy! Is that a download link? Sweet Jesus and Mary Mother of God, I have found it - the holy grail for which I came... Wait a minute...

2) It is then that we realize that the various versions are added one after the other - chronologically. So the oldest version(and unsupported) is on top and the latest version has to dredged out of the page.

So you do what any rational person would do and scroll right to the bottom. Right? Wrong! Because what is this?
3) When you are about 10% into your mad scroll to the bottom, you realize you've already hit the comments section...

At this point your reaction is

disappointed animated GIF

and you've given up on the attempt at gif making.

If you want your customers to like you, you have to think like them. Ask what they want, and where they want it.

Sure comments and tutorials are are helpful, but the first thing they need is the reverse chronological - or better still only the latest - version of your software. Once they download it and are breaking their heads on HOW to use some of its features, then they will reach out to you and your page for further help.
